Tightening and extension of COVID-19 restrictions until 2 January 2021

Dear Employees and Students,

The Ministry of Higher Education and Science has for the time being extended the existing precautions for mitigating COVID-19 transmission at tertiary educational institutions until 2 January 2021. This is being done due to the recent sharp rise in reported COVID-19 cases.

Face-mask requirements have also been tightened. The new precautions enlarge on the ones we had already. See the combined list below.

Together with our ministry, we are doing everything we can to ensure that students will not have to return to studying from home. Accordingly, we hope that you will take both new and old precautions very seriously.

In past weeks, we experienced a big outbreak at the Royal Danish Academy, with 10 reported cases in one group and several small outbreaks of one or two reported cases. Everything is under control, and no additional cases have arisen, but the outbreaks demonstrate the severity of the situation, and it is important to emphasise that we must be completely transparent about any new outbreaks. The Ministry will be convinced that we are capable of continuing our educational activities if everyone takes responsibility, reports cases of infections and if we manage the situation responsibly.

These are difficult times of further restrictions on social interaction outside work and studies. Accordingly, we will return with initiatives that will make it possible to share good ideas about how we can get through this long period of restrictions together, i.e. how to improve our mental studying and working environments.

So far, we are pleased that the study programmes and tasks requiring physical attendance may continue. This is invaluable for the academic benefits.

New face-mask requirements

Effective from Thursday 29 October, all students and employees at the Royal Danish Academy must wear a face mask when they move in and through our areas. These areas include the cafeteria, library, corridors, outdoor areas and – when you stand up and move about – open-plan offices and open study areas. In other words, you must wear a face mask or face shield whenever you are not sitting at your workstation or study desk or are not sitting still in a workshop or laboratory.

Teachers who teach more than two classes in one day must wear a face mask when they are seated as well. You are still required to maintain social distancing of one (1) metre whenever you are in a common area and/or are standing together with other students or employees from a different group.

Previous requirements still in effect

  • All employees who can work from home must continue to do so. New guidelines for working from home are in the pipeline.
  • Assembling multiple fixed groups in large rooms with reduced distancing is not allowed.
  • Large lecture assemblies are still allowed, but all participants must observe a minimum distance of one (1) metre, no matter where they come from.
  • Wherever possible, everyone must keep a distance of one (1) metre everywhere on campus, also in fixed groups.  Periods of reduced distancing may occur for assessments, reviews and scheduled courses in workshops/laboratories. It will typically be possible for a fixed group to be in a reduced-distancing situation for one full day a week (assessments and reviews) or for two hours a day for one week (scheduled courses in workshops/laboratories).
  • The maximum number of participants in a fixed group is thirty (30).
  • All social events must still be cancelled.
  • Study trips and excursions for students are allowed, provided that these do not include overnight stays and that the participants observe current distancing and hygiene requirements, including the wearing of face masks in transit. Extended field assignments for students are comparable to research and may be completed, provided that these assignments are conducted within the geographical territory of the Danish Realm (Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands) and that the participants comply with all general distancing and hygiene requirements.
  • If you are a student and you get infected or if you suspect that you are infected, we urge you to notify the Study Administration Office on studieservice@kadk.dk.
  • If you are an employee and you get infected or if you suspect that you are infected, you must notify your staff manager.
  • Detailed guidelines on what to do in the event of infection or suspected infection are available on:

Also, please observe the general RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Stay home if you have symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Avoid public transport if it is possible to use other modes of transport.
  • Remember to wash hands and use hand sanitiser.
  • Remember to ventilate indoor spaces frequently.
  • Conduct as many activities as possible outdoors.
  • Restrict your personal network to ten (10) people.

We hope that everyone will do their best to follow the guidelines and take care of one another. We wish to continue keeping our campus open, and we are planning and organising the instruction in the best possible manner within the current framework. We hope for your continued support and understanding in these unusual times.

Remember that you can still write to corona@kadk.dk.

Kind regards,
Lene Dammand Lund, Jakob Brandtberg Knudsen, chairman of Task Force 2 for Safe Reopening, and Lise Møller Eriksson, chairwoman of the AMO organisation
